Toronto Drone Soccer is Canada's premier drone soccer league — where cutting-edge technology meets the thrill of team competition.
HOW IT STARTED
Toronto Drone Soccer was founded by a group of engineers, athletes, and tech enthusiasts who believed sport could be reinvented.
What started as a weekend experiment grew into a full league with registered clubs, youth programs, and corporate events. Today we host players across multiple divisions — from first-time flyers to seasoned competitors.
Our mission is simple: make drone soccer accessible, exciting, and community-driven for everyone in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.
WHAT IS DRONE SOCCER?
Drone soccer is a full-contact team sport played with drones encased in protective spherical frames. Two teams of five pilots compete to fly their striker drone through the opposing team's goal ring — while defenders try to knock them out of the air.
5v5 Teams
Each team fields five pilots — one striker and four defenders. Strategy and communication are just as important as flying skill.
Full Contact
Drones can physically collide. Defenders use their drones to block, bump, and intercept the opposing striker mid-flight.
Skill for All Levels
Beginner-friendly controls mean new players can compete within weeks. Advanced pilots unlock precision manoeuvres and aerial tactics.
Safe & Regulated
All drones use certified protective cages. Pilots wear safety helmets and play within enclosed arena netting.
HOW THE GAME WORKS
Match Format
Matches consist of three 3-minute periods. The team with the most goals at the end of regulation wins. Ties go to a sudden-death overtime period.
Scoring
A goal is scored when the striker drone passes completely through the opposing team's goal ring. The striker must be in flight — ground contact voids the attempt.
Knockouts
A drone that lands or is forced to the ground is considered knocked out. It must return to the team's start zone before re-entering play.
Fouls
Intentional ramming of a grounded drone, flying outside the arena boundary, or interference with the referee's line of sight results in a penalty.
Equipment
All drones must use league-approved frames and controllers. Modifications that alter flight performance beyond spec are prohibited.
Safety
All pilots must wear certified helmets. Spectators remain behind the safety netting at all times. Referees have authority to pause play at any time.
HOW THE LEAGUE IS ORGANIZED
Toronto Drone Soccer runs competitive divisions plus a recreational stream. Seasons run fall and spring, with playoffs and a championship event each cycle.
Recreational
Open to all skill levels. No prior experience required. Focused on fun, learning, and community. Ideal for new players and youth.
Division 2
For players with at least one season of experience. Competitive play with structured standings, playoffs, and end-of-season awards.
Division 1
The top tier of Toronto league play. Invitation or promotion-based entry. Scouts from national programs attend Division 1 matches.
Youth League
Dedicated youth stream with age-appropriate rules, lighter drones, and certified youth coaches. Runs concurrently with adult seasons.
